I’m about 45% convinced that the entire future of hip-hop depends on Thank Me Later. So here it is, the first single, and I guess it’s what you would expect. Drake’s bitching about fame, but not really, sounding exactly the same as he has over all of his appearances in the last six months. He tries to make the chorus epic by making it excruciatingly long, and while it’s admittedly catchy, it feels just…empty. Has Drake run out of things to say already?
The beat sounds incredibly sloppy. Boi-1-da tried to pull of a marching band vibe and threw on some epic strings on the chorus for effect. I don’t know…for the “long awaited” debut single, it sounds incredibly rushed and sloppy. Has Drake pulled the wool over our eyes for this long? That said, you know there will be a legion of 16-year olds making their facebook statuses “Who the fuck are y’all”, and that’s who you’re trying to sell to, right?
Nice Dead Prez reference though, dunn. 4/10.
